[According to the rites of the Presbyterian Church, this marriage was solemnized between us: Peter Hawkins & Eliza Scutts in the presence of us: Phillip Miles & Sophia Scutts ~ her mark by me or before me James *allerton, Officiating Minister or Registrar.] [The Sydney Morning Herald Monday 28 December 1874. FATAL ACCIDENT - The Monaro Mercury reports that a man named Peter Hawkins: was killed on Friday, 18th instant, by the upsetting of a cart near Jellamatong. At the inquest one of the witnesses gave the following paticulars of the occurrence :-John Welch deposed-: I am a farmer residing at Brother's Grove, Jellamatong ; myself and others were shearing in my shed about a quarter of a mile from my dwelling - yesterday; the deceased, Peter Hawkins, came to the shed about 5'o'clock in the evening; he was driving a cart with one horse; he left about 6'o'clock to go to his father in law; while at the shed, he produced some grog; he gave the shearers and all hands, about 9 in number, some grog that he had brought with him; he was perfectly sober when he arrived at the shed; while there he shore about 3 or 4 sheep; when he left for Elliot's; he was quite sober; this morning at 6'o'clock. John Kiss, who had been staying the night at my place; left for Bobundareh; he shortly after returned, and told me that deceased, Peter Hawkins, was dead or dying under his cart on the Cooma Creek: I inmediately went to the spot, and there found Welch, Thomas Clarke, and one or two others standing over the body, which I examined and found quite dead I sent my son Into Cooma to rep�the matter; on reaching the spot I found the cart was turned over, lying on the off-wheel in the creek, and the body of Peter Hawkins was lying at the 'side of the wheel'; I examined the tracks of the cart, and the horse had apparently gones down a steep bank about five or six yards to the left of the proper crossing, and this caused the accident.]

Witness: Henry Rogers. When and where buried: 19th October Western Road Cemetery. Paramatta - Undertaker: William Metcalfe. Minister: S A Johnstone, Church of England.
