Scutt, of Brigstocke Road, to Fanny Mary Ann, eldest daughter of Mr. R Hill, Castle House, Stake's Croft.] [Western Daily Press, Saturday 11 August 1883. Grocery, &c — J. C. Scutt. 218 Cheltenham Road, requires respectable Youth as Apprentice.] [Western Daily Press - Saturday 22 August 1891. Appropriating a Grocer's Preserves. Francis Charles Lawrence, a labouring man, was charged with stealing a jar containing preserved plums, value 1s, the property of John Charles Scutt. P.C.114A said "shortly after 8 o'clock the previous evening saw the prisoner in Ashley Road carrying something under his coat." Witness stopped him and found it to be a pot jam which he stated he picked up in Cheltenham Road. Alexander Cross, assistant Mr Scutt, grocer, Cheltenham Road, saw the jar jam had been taken from outside the shop where it had been placed with some goods. The accused pleaded not guilty, and said he found the jar wrapped in paper in Cheltenham Road. The bench were not disposed to credit the man's story, and sent him to prison for 21 days with hard labour.] [Bristol Mercury - Sat 01 Sep 1900 Licensing Notices. I, John Charles Scutt, Provision Dealer, now residing at 218, Cheltenham Road, in the Parish of Bristol, in the said City and County of Bristol, do hereby give Notice that it is my intention to apply at an adjournment of the General Annual Licensing Meeting to be holden in and for the said city and County on the 26th day of September Next, for a Licence to hold an Excise License to Sell by Retail Bottled Foreign and British Wine to be consumed on the premises at a House and Shop situate at No, 218, in Cheltenham Road aforesaid, in the said City and County, of which Premises I am the Owner, and which said Premises are now used as a Grocer's Shop, Given under my hand this 25th day of August, 1900. 7195 J.
