Notes [W J D S - (1911) residence Atherstone, Warwickshire.] [Tamworth Herald, Saturday 10 December 1904. Dangerous Football. Edward Perkins, Wm. Scutt, Frank Hunt. Wm. Orton, and Thomas Alkin, boys, all at Atherstone, were summoned for playing football in Church Street, on December 3. Defendants pleaded guilty. William Pugh, coachman, Grendon, said he was driving when his horse dashed into the lamp post. The trap was damaged. He tried to hold the horse in, when it pulled him over the trap and dragged him down the street. The boys had pieces of cardboard placed in the road to represent goal posts, which caused the horse to shy. His employer (Mr. Paul) did not wish to press the case.
