By Benjamin Scutt of Brighthelmeston, doctor of physic, to William White of the same place, servant, of a piece of freehold ground in the Second Furlong, Hilly Laine in Brighthelmeston containing in front from N. to S., 100 ft. and from E. to W. 8 ft being part of a 4 paul piece late Thos. Friend's and formerly Wm. Vinall's And also another piece in the same furlong adjoining the other piece, 100 ft by 25 ft. 6 in. part of a 4 paul piece formerly George Beaches and since Henry Beaches.] [Assignment by way of Mortgage - ref. SAS-N/659 - date:24 Jun 1808. By John Mathias of Brighthelmeston, slater, to Benjamin Scutt of the same place, doctor of physic - for £500 - of a lease by the said Benjamin Scutt to the said John Mathias of 18 Jan., last for 99 years at a rent of £71 of a piece of freehold land in the Second Furlong in the Hilly Laine in Brighthelmeston, 99ft. N. to S. and E. to W. on the N. side, 69ft. and on the S. side, 79ft., abutting to land formerly of Israel Paine late Philip Mighell's and then belonging to the said Ben. Scutt, and then intended as a road, E., to the level, W., to James Clarke, N. and to other ground sold to ground sold by him to Mark Fricker, S., being part of 4 pauls formerly Swann's, afterwards Friend's, since Thos. Millener - B. Scutt, Brighthelmston.] [1.8.1814 Notice of bankruptcy of Benjamin Scutt, late of Brighton, coal merchant, dealer and chapman.] [Release between the same parties - ref. SAS-N/689 - date:9 Dec 1816. The premises were leased by Benjamin Scutt to William White, 7 March, 1807 (see No. SAS-N/651) and assigned by White to Thos. Hill, (No. SAS-N/681). The Assignees of Benjamin Scutt a bankrupt in 1811 conveyed the property in fee to the said Charles Rand and assigned a Mortgage term of 500 years to the said Richard Chase in trust.] [Benjamin died after Will 24 Feb 1801 & before Codicil 27 Dec 1819 (now between 1814-1819).]
