[individual notes]

[Hampshire Telegraph Saturday 13 March 1847. Scutt v. Charman. Defendant was charged with having at Pulborough, on the 18th February, wilfully shot at and killed two geese, value 2/-, the property of Samuel Scutt. The complainant and defendant's father are neighbours; and the geese of the former having often trespassed upon land occupied by the latter, he ordered his son on the day in question to go and shoot the geese, which were again in his meadow, as he thought he had warned the complainant enough. The son accordingly "let fly," when down dropped three of the feathered intruders, two never to rise again, and the third only to be carried from the field of slaughter. The magistrates told the parties they had better retire and agree upon compensation without their aid, which they did; and the affair was settled by the defendant paying 1 l, with the addition of 10s. costs] [1817 Oct 03 also noted.]
