Reginald Stephen Scutt, Chief Inspector, Canterbury Telephone Area. During the period when the enemy shelling of the South East Coast from the Channel Ports in France was intensified, Mr. Scutt was responsible for the maintenance of essential communications in and between the towns along the whole of the coast from Dymchurch to Deal. He was at all times an inspiration to the staff under him and he shared all their dangers and difficulties. Much of the work had to be done while shelling was still in progress and he showed high courage, great resource and exceptional devotion to duty in carrying the work to a successful conclusion. Rex. S. Scutt - d:1968. R S S had a durable relationship with Dorothy Singer who changed her name by Deed Poll to Scutt. He was decorated for his work during the war with the BEM (Civil Division). The London Gazette [1968] R S S - 64yr., 30 Hillside Avenue, Canterbury, Kent, retired Civil Servant 7th January 1968.
