Hartley Owen Kimball 1861-1913

Hartley
52 years old, 28 days old

Birth on 28 August 1861 • Rutherglen, Vict, AUSTRALIA
Marriage with Alice Jane Scudds on 10 July 1895 • Orange Grove, Bulgandramine, NSW, AUSTRALIA
Death on 25 September 1913 • Peak Hill, NSW, AUSTRALIA

Notes Not a lot is known about Hartley at this stage other than he was a farm hand on Orange Grove near Bulgandramine most of his working life. On 27th September 1905 he was tried and sentenced to three years gaol at Dubbo, NSW. The charge being "Unlawfully & Carnally knowing a girl under the age of 14 years". The sentence was served at Goulburn Gaol. It would seem that due to the events above Hartley was shunned by the rest of the family as most of his sister's descendants were unaware of his existence and those that had heard his name mentioned during their upbringing were lead to believe he died at a young age without family. His son Richard Cyrus rarely if ever spoke of him and refused to attend his funeral. Rumors have it that Hartley was very fond of his drink and was once dragged home by one leg (caught in the stirrup) after falling drunk from his horse.
