[George Thomas, at Sorell, Tasmania, father's occupation sailor.] [The Mercury - Hobart, Tas. Monday 17 March 1890 p1 Family Notices. Scott-Plaister - On March 4, 1890, at All Saint's Church, Hobart, by the Rev. Canon Archer, M.A., assisted by the Rev. Leigh Trafford Tarleton, George Thomas Scott, of Hobart, to Agnes Augusta Plaister, formerly of Froome, Somersetshire, England.] [The Mercury - Hobart, Tas. Saturday 29 December 1894 p1. Scott - On December 27, accidentally drowned at Dunalley, George Thomas Scott, aged 30 years.] [The Mercury - Hobart, Tas. Friday 28 December 1894 p3 Article. In Memoriam. It seems rather extreme, perhaps, to speak of a whole office being thrown into mourning, and yet that is the only phrase that fitly describes the feeling that spread when late on Thursday afternoon it was known in the Mercury office that Mr. George Thomas Scott, collector, etc., had been drowned at Dunalley, East Bay Nook, during the Christmas holidays. Mr. Scott had been in the office almost since he left school, and was universally respected for his straight-forward integrity of character, and the sorrow which will be caused to his young wife and the other members of the family will be shared by all who were brought into contact with him in course of business. During the afternoon and evening a large number of inquirers called at this office to have the sad intelligence verified, and these joined in the general expressions of regret which prevailed in the community at the mournful disaster which cut off at so early an age this promising young man. Mr. Scott had literary tastes as well as the instinct for the gathering in of money, and it is only within the present month that a composition of his, "An Amazon of Tasmania: a story of primitive vengeance," was published in The Mail, as other fiction has also been under the nom de plume of "Sheridan Scott," while other little emanations from his pen appeared in several ways, and won almost universal acceptance. In consequence of the telegram received from Dunalley on Thursday afternoon, arrangements were at once made to bring the body to Hobart for burial. Deceased, who was a member of the congregation of All Saints Church, Macquarie Street, was married to a sister of Mr. Plaister, draper, Elizabeth Street, by whom there is a family of two young children.]
