[J S - out of wedlock.] [J S living in 1841 in Patching and 1851-61 in Broadwater.] [Sussex Advertiser, Tuesday 14 July 1846. On Saturday, John Scutt, labourer, was brought up by constable Orde, before Mr. Whitter, on a charge made by Mr. Wm. Wyatt, overseer Clapham, for neglecting to support his wife and family, belonging to that place. The case was heard, but a verbal arrangement was then agreed to by the overseer for payment by the defendant of the costs of the present proceedings, and the future support him of his family, by which means he regained his liberty. The case was taken as one belonging to Steyning Bench divison, which Clapham is situate, and for which, Mr. Whitter is an acting magistrate.] [J S - 66yr.] |
