[C S - 49yr.] [The Death on an Omnibus. Mr Edwin Hooper has held an inquest at the Stork Hotel, Heathfield Road, relative to the death of Charles Scutt (49), driver, back of 144 Heathfield Road, who died on the Browne's Green bus on Friday morning. Hie made the journey to town all right, but upon his return he was taken very ill and upon arriving at Hokely depot someone else took his place on the box. When near Gibson Road, the conductor who was collecting fares on the top of the bus, noticed that; deceased appeared very helpless. He went to him, but as he was tilting the reins deceased slipped off the seat on to the footboard, dead. It was said that the deceased had given-way to drink of late. A verdict was returned to the effect that "Death was due to natural causes, accelerated by excessive drinking."] |
