[Sheffield Evening Telegraph - Friday 31 October 1902. "ON THE WATER CHUTE". A DISASTROUS TRIP. In the Westminster County Court, yesterday Judge and a jury had before them action brought by George Edward Scutt, a builder, to recover damages for injuries received on the "water chute" at Crystal Palace. Mr Morton Smith, opening plaintiffs case, said that the day on the police fete at the Crystal Palace his client and his wife went down the shute in the front seat of the boat. The fall into the water was most violent, and plaintiff was thrown into the air, breaking his leg as he fell again. If the boats had two handles such accidents could not happen. The boatman said this was the only accident, during the time the chute had been at work. The engineer to the company stated that this season over a million persons were carried on the chute. The centre rail was tried, and abandoned as dangerous. The jury found there was no negligence on the part of the defendants, and that the plaintiff contributed to the accident.] [Scutt, George Edward carrying on business at 163 Waterloo Road, Lambeth, in the county of London in partnership with Arthur Cole, trading as R.C.Scutt and Son, Builders and Contractors High Court of Justice in Bankruptcy 361 of 1903.
