[London Daily News, Friday 27 August 1847. Naval - Movements. Sheerness, Aug. 25. The Curacoa is ordered to be paid off at this port. The Rose not being now required for the relief service in Ireland, it has been ordered that her sails be unbent, her running rigging unrove, and her masts struck and secured so that she may be ready in ease she should be required elsewhere. Stores and materials for the batteries for the coast-guard brigade have been ordered to be furnished from this yard on the demand of the inspecting commander at Deal. The establishment of steam transports for the conveyance of stores, instead of the hoys and lighters now in use, under contemplation. Awnings, curtain's, and studding-sails are in future to be made of canvass prepared with Burnett's solution. The following appointments have been made on the establishment: S. Townsend, millwright, to be draughtsman and writer; Thos. Scutt, to be leading man of labourers; Henry Gleade, acting leading man, vice Scutt; Thos. Cashbrook, to be extra rigger. Wm. Fielden, sailmaker, has been superannuated on a pension. A trawl and a sein net are in future to be issued to all ships proceeding to foreign stations, when applied for. The extra allowance of 4d. per day granted to the 12s. per week labourers of this yard will cease on the 28th inst., and as the drills of the dockyard battalion are to terminate on the 31st their pay will thus at once be reduced 5s.
