[Aberdeen Journal, Aberdeenshire, Saturday 30 September 1905. FATAL POACHING AFFRAY. Henry Scutt, said to be native of West Hoathly, Sussex, was yesterday committed for trial at Tonbridge, Kent, a charge of poaching and attempting to murder James Martin, a gamekeeper at Bell View, Sevenoaks, in December. It was stated that Martin encountered two men in a wood, and one attacked him with a gun. He warded off the blows with a stick and the man then stepped back and fired at him, the charge going just over his head. Martin then wrestled the gun from the man, who made off. The gamekeeper last Sunday identified Scutt as the man, and he was arrested. Accused gives complete denial to the charge.] [H S - 71yr.] |
